Black Hawk County Public Health is enrolled in the Iowa Immunization Registry System (IRIS), which is a secure statewide database of immunization records. The IDPH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) publish Immunization Recommendations by Age.
Black Hawk County Public Health’s Immunization Program assures there are vaccinations available for children and adolescents in the program. The Public Health department is responsible for updating vaccine information as it becomes available, and contracts with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide vaccines through their Vaccine For Children Program. Black Hawk County works to address barriers, educate providers on vaccinations, and provides vaccine recommendations for school-age children. The Public Health department also conducts annual vaccination audits with schools and childcare centers to review compliance with vaccine requirements.

Vaccines for Adults (VFA)
Black Hawk County Public Health believes everyone deserves access to vaccines. The Public Health department is responsible for updating vaccine information as it becomes available and contracts with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide vaccines through their Vaccine For Adults Program. The program helps uninsured and underinsured adults get vaccines at no cost. More information about recommended vaccines can be found on the on the CDC website.

Hepatitis Vaccination
In addition to the VFA program, Black Hawk County Public Health Center can provide vaccination for Hepatitis A and B to persons who are in high-risk categories and seeking STI testing:
