Black Hawk County Public Health reports that Wednesday, May 12th, after a review from an independent federal advisory committee, the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine is recommended for use in adolescents aged 12-15. The FDA and CDC have approved this recommendation.

The Black Hawk County Health Department reports that the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has confirmed two cases of the COVID-19 variant, SARS-CoV-2 B.1.617 in Iowa. This variant is also referred to as the India variant because it was first detected there. We are still learning about the characteristics of this strain.

Black Hawk County Public Health, MercyOne, Peoples Community Health Clinic and UnityPoint Health, along with local pharmacies are joining efforts to vaccinate the community against COVID-19.
