On March 17, 2021 the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced that additional cases of the COVID-19 variant, SARS-CoV-2 B. 1.1.7 were confirmed in Iowa. The variant is often referred to as the U.K. variant because it was first detected in the United Kingdom. The variant has been confirmed in Black Hawk County.

03052021 Press Release_Iowans with Underlying Conditional Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccine

Iowa Department of Public Health announced that beginning March 8th, Iowa vaccine providers can officially begin vaccinating additional priority populations. Black Hawk County is currently planning the transition to Phase 1C in support of this new guidance. There will be a period of adjustment as we move forward into Phase 1C, and continue vaccination efforts for residents age 65 and older. Previous priority populations remain eligible as we move into the new Phase.

On Friday, February 5th, the Governor of Iowa issued an update to the proclamation of Disaster Emergency, removing key COVID-19 safeguards and enhanced prevention measures. While this proclamation relieved the restrictions in place regarding mask wearing, social distancing and gathering limitations, it continues to encourage businesses and those gathering publicly to social distance, practice increased hygiene and implement other public health measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
